Obama & Socialism Why It Does Not Work.

Let me try to explain the logical reasons that the Socialist idea of "spreading the wealth around" will not work. If it worked, I think most people would welcome it. Let's use a very simple illustration to help us understand why it doesn’t work.
Suppose that you and I are neighbors. You applied yourself to getting an education, and then got a job earning $1,500 a week. You spend $1,000 a week on family and personal expenses, and save / invest $500. You have a pretty good life, with some money saved, and you hope to start your own business - employing people while providing goods and services to the community.
I live next-door to you. I did not apply myself to education, and have no marketable skills. I work very little, or not at all, and am always broke. I look at your apparent success, and decide to ask you to help me. You are a caring person, and you sympathize with my situation, so you give me $200 each week, thereby reducing your savings to $300. You are still okay, but now you have less. I take the $200 and spend it immediately, but it is not enough to provide for my needs, so I come back to you and say, "The money you gave me was not enough. You owe me more." You ask me, "Why do I owe you more?" and I reply, "Because you still have more than I do, and that is not fair." You would be justified in asking, "Why is it not fair? You did no work for the $200; I did. By what logic do you feel entitled to any of my money?"
Initially, I continue to argue, complain, accuse, and threaten you, and then I call the local newspaper, and accuse you of not caring about the ’middle class.’ Next, I find someone in the neighborhood who has political aspirations and tell him that – if he will go to Congress and force you to give me more of your money – I will campaign for him. The congressman wins, goes to Washington, and pushes through legislation which mandates that you must give me half of what you earn.
You now have $750 left. You must reduce your family's standard of living, and stop saving and investing. I am still not working, even though I am in good health. I am spending the $750 that I forced you to give me, but I am not saving or investing. Now you cannot ever hope to start your own business, and I have no desire to start a business. I am merely consuming what you are producing without contributing anything to anyone. Neither you nor I will make jobs for anyone. By staying on this path, all we can reasonably hope for will be to simply run in place until the ends of our lives.
Significantly, you will not continue to work hard to earn $1,500 per week, since you are forced by law to give me half of what you make. You will work less, take more time off, forego continuing education, pass up overtime and promotions, and earn less -- why should you work hard so I (who will not work), can continue to take half of what you make? You will become discouraged, angry, and bitter toward me. Whatever sympathy you ever had for me will disappear. You will have learned first-hand the meaning of the Scripture which says, "If a man will not work, neither let him eat" (2 Thessalonians 3:10 NKJV?).
If you transpose this one example onto the whole nation, we would have millions of people who work to provide for themselves and their families, while being forced to provide for individuals and families who will not work. The disincentives for the workers would be great, and the whole of economy, culture, and human relations would suffer decline to the point of “misery for all”, instead of “liberty and justice for all.”
