Geithner Says Tax Evasion “Careless Mistake”
Obama, This Isn’t Change This Is Corrupt Chicago Style Politics
Before the Senate Finance Committee Timothy Geithner New York Federal Reserve President said his failure to pay $34,000 in income taxes was a “careless mistake.” Geithner said, “These were careless mistakes. These were avoidable mistakes. But they were unintentional.”
These mistakes were avoidable if Geithner followed the law. He was given documentation for IMF that he had to pay his taxes, they didn’t withhold them. This wasn’t careless mistakes or unintentional mistakes this was tax evasion. When first caught he paid 2 of the years in back owed taxes and not the other 2 years, he waiting to pay those until being nominated by President Obama to be Secretary of Treasury.
Does America need a tax evader as Secretary of the Treasury? Does America need a tax evader running the IRS? Geithner has acknowledged he signed an IMF statement saying it was his responsibility to fully pay U.S. Social Security and Medicare taxes. Will it be a careless mistake when Geithner does something that costs America millions or billions of dollars?
As head of the Federal Reserve Bank's New York regional bank, Geithner was a central player in the Bush administration's response to the financial crisis. He helped Henry Paulson, Bush's treasury secretary, and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke fashion the government's response. Now Geithner is the best person to lead America out of the economic crisis?
Democrats are insisting that the country's financial problems are too serious to delay the confirmation for what they termed an honest mistake on Geithner's part in the failure to file taxes. "There is no one more suited for this job by way of intelligence, experience, inclination and temperament," Sen. Charles Schumer, a member of the finance panel, said Tuesday. "He has come clean on the tax issue and no one has alleged any intentional wrongdoing." Socialist Schumer I allege there was intentional wrongdoing. Just look at what he did.
President Obama last week called Geithner's tax problems an embarrassment but an "innocent mistake." This was no innocent mistake or careless mistake, this was tax evasion that you or I would be held accountable for. America hold Timothy Geithner accountable for what he did. U.S. Senate hold Geithner accountable and vote him down as Secretary of Treasury.
