Hostages Held At Discovery Channel

Gunman Has Green Manifesto

An armed man carrying an explosive device is holding at least one person hostage at the Discovery Channel headquarters building in Maryland.  A SWAT team was dispatched to the Silver Spring, Md. scene, and the suspect, an Asian male, was being monitored in the building’s lobby via closed circuit television cameras.
Employees were evacuated from the building as well as nearby areas, Montgomery County Police spokeswoman Angela Cruz told the Washington Post.

Montgomery County, Md. police Capt. Paul Starks said that gunman police are speaking with hostage taker, who is making demands.  Witnesses have reported that the man has fired multiple shots, though police have not confirmed those details. It’s reported he said, "Nobody is going anywhere."

ABC affiliate WJLA in Washington, DC is reporting that the gunman is James Lee, 43.  The man reportedly protested the Discovery Channel in the past, and has a website describing a planet populated by "filthy human children."

A person inside the building tells The Associated Press the man had something strapped to his chest and has hostages.  A day care facility in the building has been safely evacuated. Adults have also been seen fleeing the building, covering their heads.
